Your kids will stretch their creative wings by breaking away from the restrictions of a single art medium! Students will explore the fun world of combining materials like fabric, textural materials, graphics and found objects into a variety of mixed media projects.

Art is an illusion. How is it possible to make something appear real on a 2-D surface? How do we combine elements together to make a masterpiece? Kids will learn exciting methods, or tricks of the trade that artists have been handed down for centuries. Art techniques stretch across all medias, watercolor, ink, colored pencil and pastel. Students will learn how to use different tools and techniques while having a blast.

Themes are suggested or emergent based, determined by discussions, inspiration and individual interests, and are developed into hands-on projects. Art projects are created independently, in pairs or in groups with guidance, suggestions and encouragement but they are never regimented. The process and exploration of art making is more important then the product and students are encouraged to follow their interests and to think outside of the box.

Projects will include: Collage, visual journals, paintings and drawings, assemblage and sculpture, montage and collage, art and poetry, edible art and art that looks edible. sewing, knitting and jewelry making, all types of clay projects, science experiments and little environments, cultural and historical creations and more! Every day is different. The world is our oyster, there are a billion cool things to make. Kids will learn all about artists, the world and themselves while creating both 2-D and 3-D projects.

I am writing to recommend Sandy Dawson’s program. I can’t say enough about how blessed our family has been to be able to have our two little ones with Sandy after school. She has a gentle, focused, genuinely loving presence that seems to work well with young kids. In addition, as an accomplished artist she never seems to lack creative projects for the kids. As a working parent, I feel great knowing that my little ones are spending after-school hours in a safe and engaging environment.
This may sound a little much, but a while back I actually found myself writing, “For outstanding care” in the memo of her check. And it’s true.
But don’t take my word for it.
“She’s nice,” says my oldest. “I like doing art with her. And she’s pretty.”
“I like her cat,” adds my six-year-old. “And I like to play with her toys.”

I think you are the best teacher in the world because we did cool things in your class.

Wow! We feel very fortunate to have had Sandy look after our kids and highly recommend her after school program.
